HaruMichi short

from the official account on youtube

Michiru is cute hugging haruka and all but I don’t feel neither the art style nor the voice acting

but I’ll wait to see the whole scene to decide

Flower Dresses series

Finally Haruka in formal wear that is not a pantsuit.

Now if her dress had a slip up her thigh, it would be so much more Haruka but at least they got her in a dress, Michiru’s dress is fabulous.

Also if you get them closer in the picture you can have them look like there fingers interlock with each other

[UPDATED]A HaruMichi Fanart by me

I had this idea for so many years but since I’m not an artist I’ve never come around to make it, until now.

I’m still not an artist, but I hope everyone can enjoy what I made.

the story goes like this:

Haruka and Michiru are super famous, and while they were doing separate photoshoots for magazines targeting their audience, they’ve never done one together, until one magazine finally asked them to.

they wanted something that was out of the norm for both, sexy but not trashy, showcasing their bond, and how they trust each other.

Please do not repost anywhere without permission, also don’t remove the watermark.

The idea of Michiru unzipping Haruka’s Jumpsuit with one hand, and covering her tit with the other, felt to me that it would be the only way of Haruka doing a sexy photoshoot. Also Haruka is in the complete mercy of Michiru, she trusts her with her life. Haruka has her head back, her eyes closed and her mouth agape.

Michiru having this mischievous smirk on her lips, is so Michiru, she loves Haruka’s body, and here she shows the world what she is out, she is proud, and she loves tits 🤣 especially Haruka’s, and nothing can get between her and her wife.

Michiru wears an aqua coloured dress, black stockings with garters, because she’s sexy and she knows it. and she also wears a set of headphones common in the racing world for inner communication between the pits and the driver. She obviously dirty talks to Haruka while she’s driving (well that’s super dangerous but hey💁‍♂️)

there is a possibility that I might write that photoshoot fanfic as well, when I have the time.

EDIT: I made more!

HaruMichi headcanons that get the characters so wrong

a thing I’m not going to talk about on tumblr, because people there are not ready to hear.

THIS HEADCANON read it, think about every word and tell me this is not the influence of the 90s anime, I dare you.

THE AUDACITY TO USE THE MANGA PICTURE

the first wrong:

they break up to find themselves

implies that one is an obstacle to the other’s life, and vice versa.

have we seen that ever in the manga? The answer is no. They put their careers to the pause because of the mission at hand which is SAVING THE WORLD. But after that and after they lose their powers, Michiru is in Vienna for concert while Haruka is in South Africa for a race. So neither stops doing the things they love because they are together romantically. All the while raising a fucking child!

Of course someone would argue that career is not the only thing in life, which is true. So what other obstacle could each other be. Dating other people?

Why is that so necessary if they have already found the love of their lives? How them being together when we first see them, makes it impossible for them to have been in other relationships prior.

they are 16 when we meet them, they might have awaken less than six months before, they might have dated for less. But for the sake of the argument I will give them a year together. So prior to 15 they most likely had relationships with other teens their age.

So how many relationships do they need, before they settle with their person?

in the 90s anime they weren’t dating when we first saw them. so they could very well be with other ppl before the season started. But in the 90s there was the element of jealousy at play, mostly by Haruka but also made a gag out of Michiru answering maybe when questioned if she’s jealous.

So yes Jealousy IS AN OBSTACLE, which is not present in the manga whatsoever.

The second wrong:

when they get back together

after how long? do they break up at 18 and they get back together at 40? Or they just break up for like a year? What changed in that amount of time? Career progress? being with other people? making a family with someone else? Going through several break ups with other people, trauma, abuse, what?

Or do they break up at 35 because they want to clearly date other people? And if so, then why they come back together? At that stage in life, they know what they want (I assume for them specifically because it aligns with their personalities, it’s not a fact of life for everyone). Michiru has probably accomplished EVERYTHING as a musician, multiple records, playing with the best orchestras in the world, probably producing for others, she is even teaching in the manga. Haruka at 35 as a race car driver is that the epilogue of her career, probably an F1 world champ, more than once (as she’s written to be extremely skillful). Most drivers at that age, thinking of their retirement or taking it a bit easier with other racing programs not as demanding, they have spouses and kids, so the thirst for racing is fulfilled.

why does a breakup in any stage of their life would make their bond stronger? Why was their bond prior to break up not strong enough?

The third wrong:

Their dynamic is healthier too

This one implies that their dynamic is not healthy. Which I find very puzzling, because in the manga, there is not a single case of them raising red flags. They are sweet and tender to each other, respect and love each other, protective of each other, no jealousy is present, as explained above neither was ever an obstacle to the other’s career. They communicate their feelings, one example is when Haruka in dream arc sheds a tear because she misses her princess, Michiru is there by her side, hugs her, and Haruka opens up and tells her the reason she’s crying, no hiding, not wiping the tear away, just open and real. Their playful banter when they return to school in Stars, and Haruka is grumpy for having to get up early, and Michiru is enthusiastic with her return to school, she greets everyone and she’s thinking of getting lover letters again. So yeah again where is the unhealthy dynamic? Just because two people are together for long and may or may not have experiences with other people that doesn’t mean that it’s a red flag. In fact I would argue that they are both on even play-field in terms of experiences.

In the 90s now, as mentioned above Haruka is a jealous person. That is toxic, especially when she tells Michiru to not get people inside her dressing room, that’s controlling. Haruka also flirts in front of Michiru with other people, that’s a shitty behaviour. So if you go with THAT with your headcanon then yes as they are shown in the 90s they are not healthy.

Now if any of this has to do with their whole destiny bs, I gotta say that manga HaruMichi are not together because of destiny, they are together because they are both lesbians who find each other very very hot. The fact that their guardian crystals know each other from their past, is not informing their attraction, it amplifies it. Imagine being that strong a lesbian that your love for your woman transcended time and space! HaruMichi (manga version) can relate.

More HaruMichi fanfic pet-peeves

You know how Haruka is 99% of the times portrayed as this very experienced, very confident, very flirty lesbian?

I don’t agree with half of it, but whatever I’m not going to say no to a confident Haruka.

what irks me with such portrayal of Haruka is that when it comes to Michiru she’s suddenly not experienced, not confident, and not flirty. And she can’t tell for the life of her if Michiru is interested in her, if she’s attracted to women, if she’s a lesbian. nothing.

literally HOW.

make it make sense.

they apply the “dumb lesbian” stereotype on Haruka when they also portray her as a very confident, very experienced one.

to think that Haruka will lock eyes with Michiru, (who would instantly fuck her with her eyes) and Haruka would think, “nah that girl is straight”

I saw this and I instantly thought of Michiru

wonder why 🤔

🤔🤔🤔🤔

ohh that’s right!

That’s WHY!

😂😂

Queer characters in Sailor moon

I have talked about this multiple times, and I’ll talk about it once more

This analysis is going to be touching on manga, crystal, the musicals, and PGSM, and NOT the 90s anime, a.k.a: all the works created and approved by Naoko herself and not what the 90s production delivered.

Toei and the 90s producers stripped all the characters of their queer identities, and straight coded even HaruMichi, so there is no reason for me to speak about THAT. Also Toei is disgusting on how they treat their queer employees so literally FUCK them.

Back to the topic:

I’ve been enjoying some cartoons lately that have massive queer rep (GOOD REP), and they are rightfully praised for it, which made me think a lot of how Naoko treated her characters and why that was so significant.

The cartoons in question are the new She-ra(Netflix), and The owl house(Disney). Both, by queer creators which is important, have brought good rep on kids programs and that’s fantastic (Also these shows have amazing stories so go enjoy them)

  • She-ra’s creator had to fight to get her protagonist to be a lesbian and include a romantic kiss at the last scene of the last episode between 2 women. There were more characters who were queer, one of them had two dads, he was also bisexual, a legit lesbian married couple, and multiple other character who were queer, including a character who was non-binary.
  • The Owl House’s creator had to also fought, and sadly the show will be shortened and pretty much cut as the third season will only have 3 long episodes instead of full seasons the two prior have gotten. What she managed was to get two girls to confess their love and start dating in the middle of season 2, which means that we will get to see them date. Also there is already a non-binary character who is also older(in their 40s) and another one hinted, in the magical world she has created there is no homophobia or transphobia, also a main character again like in She-ra she had two dads. Another main character and the non-binary one have dated in the past, and nobody bats an eyelash.

As I said about the Owl House we are in a magical world(everyone is an elf or demon, the same happens with She-ra, it’s a magical world everyone is an alien. Which means the creators can build the worlds however they want without bringing homophobia into it.

Now if we look at Sailor Moon, which was written in the 90s and how literally every character was effortlessly queer, and how nobody ever questioned that. Usagi having heart eyes for all her guardians, Rei being either ace or a lesbian(PGSM made her canon lesbian in love with Minako), Ami being in love with Usagi (especially in PGSM, even the actresses commented on that), Makoto the only one who leaned more into being attracted to just boys, Minako who was never boy crazed, heavily queercoded by the end of the manga and canon in PGSM. Mamoru extremely homoerotic with his generals especially in PGSM, but also in the manga. Setsuna was more adoring the Queen than the King in the manga, but they made her admit being in love with Endy in the old musicals which were heavily influenced by the 90s anime so, meh. Hotaru clearly showing only signs of attraction towards Chibiusa, saying the typical in yuri manga confessions “even though we are both girls, I love you”, even Mamo commented that he felt he was sending his daughter to her wedding lol, of course Chibs being queer as fuck like her mama and papa. And then there is HaruMichi, shown as a couple, through and through, all the characters know they are a couple, they live together, they raise a CHILD together, it cant get any clearer than that.

Seiya also a lesbian in love with Usagi. Many character do crossdress including the 3 lights, Haruka, and Hawk’s eye, but there is no reference of them being non-binary, the 3 lights are women they only crossdress for their mission, Haruka does the same for a fraction of the manga, as for Hawk’s eye they do appear as amab and they use fem pronounces and appearance, but they don’t live long enough to touch on that.

Even though Sailor moon is also a magical world, it is very slice of life, with regular people with no powers and in the middle of Tokyo, a real city in the real world. Naoko didn’t build a world without prejudice, she removed prejudice from a real world. I don’t think Naoko even understand the concept of heterosexuality to begin with, but she still grew up in a society with a lot of pre-decided roles of what women and men should and shouldn’t do. The entire concept of Sailor moon was to show her bosses (who were men) that girls can be girly, and cute, and still be bad asses and save the world. and she did THAT in the 90s. of course her work was heavily censored all over the world, but with crystal/eternal and the new musicals it’s a second chance to show the world how having queer character in your show doesn’t have to be all about homophobia and negativity.

and I love that for Sailor Moon

The Outers’ pain

We need to talk about the Outers and their pain, because my girls need serious therapy!

in black moon arc we learn about Pluto and her solitude, Luna even says how it was a forbidden knowledge to know the existence of her, she was appointed when she was but a child (like all guardians) by Queen Serenity, by infinity arc we learn that 2 more soldiers exist whose existence was also a secret. Along with Pluto, Uranus and Neptune had an even greater duty which seemed to have been kept a secret even from them, the power their talismans held. It was forbidden for them to meet, we know they could communicate with each other through video calls (yep naoko invented video calls before they were cool 😛 )but they were to remain away from each other. That solitude was hard on them, but duty to their queen and princess was so much more important to them.

Michiru says that the moon was their home(not their planets) so it’s safe to assume that their planets were not inhabited, but regardless they were alone in their castles. There only salvation and source of courage was the light of their Queen and Princess. That’s what kept them sane.

When Sil Mil met its demise, they couldn’t leave their posts, they were not allowed to leave their posts, so they watched their home being destroyed unable to do anything to save it. And I think it was that devastating feeling that activated their Talismans which transferred them to the Moon, their meeting of course caused the link between the talismans to activate and bring forth Saturn. Imagine their sorrow when Saturn lowered her Glaive and destroyed what was left of the Moon kingdom, their home. They couldn’t do anything to protect their home and their Princess and Queen, and their mere existence brought the ultimate destruction.

When in present, it was Saturn who awaken them, but it was too late, the enemy had already invaded Earth so they once again failed their duty, and on top of that Saturn had also reincarnated, therefore their presence was to bring destruction upon the world.

When they said they had to kill Hotaru to prevent Saturn from awakening, and Sailor Moon refused, it’s Pluto who says they knew she would say that, and then Neptune tells everyone, “you can hate us if you want” “we wont let this world die”

but then the moment they felt their Princess and the inner being in dangers they ran to their rescue. The way Sailor Moon hugs Uranus, telling her how she wanted this union for their hearts to be one, Uranus hugs Sailor Moon tighter and reassures her that that’s what they (the outers) also want.

Those moments are so powerful, and they showcase the need the outers have to be close to their princess, to protect her, to fight along side her and make her proud.

When in Dream arc they have no powers anymore it is so hard for them, Michiru’s outburst is very telling. All they ever wanted was to be close to her.

HaruMichi, why is so hard for fandom to understand the simple concept of “Undercover Mission”

considering that hollywood is filled with popular titles that depict some kind of an undercover mission in action movies in any kind of way, why the sailor moon fandom fails to grasp the concept when it comes to HaruMichi?

both in the 90s and the manga/crystal story lines, Haruka and Michiru infiltrate the Mugen academy as students, to fulfill a mission as soldiers. In all versions Haruka pretends to be a boy, when in Mugen, in the 90s the inners know Haruka to be a girl sooner than in the manga/crystal, but she remains undercover along with Michiru until they have to save Amichan, and get exposed.

in that time frame, they do things (especially in the manga/crystal) that are questionable at best, and plain out harmful at worst. Everything they do for the mission, is part of that and not their overall characters and personalities. They are solders with a heavy task at hand, and don’t get me wrong I’m not trying to justify what they did, because some of the shit they did were fucked up, what I’m trying to say is that them during the mission and them after it are two different things.

the fact that HaruMichi are the only ones blamed for trying to kill Hotaru, even though Setsuna was very well part of the team as well, as adamant to fulfill the mission as HaruMichi were, speaks volumes of how much people want to shit on HaruMichi.

the 90s made their story even worst because they were looking for the talismans, and they were okay with letting people die to obtain them. while in manga/crystal they are only there to kill Saturn.

the 90s also instead of apologizing to their Princess like they did in the manga/crystal, they go and attack her at the end..

manga/crystal Haruka especially gets a lot of more hate because she kissed Usagi. and while it’s cringe and creepy of course, it’s still part of the mission, part of the plan, a thing they apologized for.

Uranus only kisses Moon once, Haruka kissing Usagi is in Usagi’s imagination, and not something that happened, with that out of the way, the only reason Uranus kissed Moon was to intimidate her, to get her distracted, which she managed since Usagi started dreaming of Haruka kissing her. at the beginning of that episode, Haruka meets Usagi at the arcade, and the inners tell Haruka to fuck off, Haruka tells Usagi that she shouldn’t play fighting games because they are dangerous, when later Sailor Moon runs after Uranus and catches up with her, Uranus repeats herself “playing fighting games is dangerous” and at that moment she means herself, she is the danger, she kisses Moon to show her that she’s dangerous and she should stay away from her like her friends told her to.

Why Michiru is not questioning this, is another criticism HaruMichi gets for that kiss. The simple answer is that they had decided they would use any means necessary to complete the mission, Haruka even questions Michiru if their ways are too unethical and futile, but Michiru tells her that it’s either that or the end of the world., so what’s there to discuss really, when they have already madke up their minds to go as far as “cause justifies the means”.

When they apologize to their Princess, Michiru is the one giving the explanations, so she’s very aware of what Haruka did.

HaruMichi in Fanfiction

Let’s have some fun with me roasting all the tropes in the HaruMichi fanfiction world

I have been a HaruMichi reader and writer since 2008, which means I HAVE SEEN IT ALL and more😅

Let’s make some things clear:
– The overwhelming majority of HaruMichi fanfictions base their writing on the 90s anime. Manga/crystal have very few and they boil down to “let’s explore Haruka’s gender”, and little to none are based on the musicals.
– fanfiction from the early 00s has not aged well…
-The majority of writers(and readers) are english speaking people (natively or otherwise) from the western world, with little to no understanding of Japanese culture and society.
-I myself have written, and enjoyed tropes, back in the day, that I now can not stand.

With that out of the way let’s start

Haruka

because of the 90s anime influence,
– Haruka is depicted almost always, to wear man clothes, hating anything feminine (including her sailor suit)
– Haruka almost always hides the fact that she’s a woman until she meets Michiru
– Haruka doesn’t understand how makeup works

There is a collective acceptance in the majority of the fandom of some western(mostly American) tropes that depict:
– Haruka to act like a dude, drink, swear, be a trouble maker, be a cheater, mistreat Michiru, be a general fuckup, fail at school, act as if her car means more to her than her girlfriend.
– Haruka as an orphan, who is more times than not, very poor, who was in foster care and ran away
– Haruka not being Japanese
– Haruka being a fuckboy, dating every woman, very accomplished at sex, very sexually active, very sexually knowledgeable, always top, always wearing the strap, never on the receiving end of penetrative sex, always binding her chest, so much so she can’t breathe, always hating her breasts, always wearing plain panties and sports bras, always in pants, always in suits.
– Haruka’s parents if mentioned always have her kicked out for being gay, or they are some drunk/drug users who didn’t give two fucks about her whatsoever, so she grew up in poverty.
– Haruka even though a racecar driver is still poor as fuck(this is delusional, and it’s impossible to happen unless the driver throws their money away quite literally)
– Sil Mil Uranus, as tomboyish, never wearing her princess dress, always be a trouble maker, refusing her duties as a princess, or to act like one. Always wears some type of fancy military uniform and everyone things she’s a man.
– Haruka thinking that Michiru is straight
– Haruka is always sure of her sexuality, and realized at a young age

Because of Crystal/manga mistranslations
– we have a Haruka who is on the transgender spectrum, either non-binary, or a trans man, struggling with dysphoria, binding, etc
– of course most of the times these topics are written by cis people, and the depictions are at the verge of problematic if not outright offensive. I’m non-binary I use they/them and the way Haruka hates anything everything feminine while being non-binary is disturbing

THANK SERENITY the alpha/beta/omega and g!p tropes in the HaruMichi fandom are non existent, or at least so few I have not noticed them. (those tropes are extremely transphobic, and rampant in other wlw fandoms, but I guess HaruMichi is too old of a fandom, that has escaped this plague.)

Michiru

since Michiru was not that much different in the 90s than she was in the manga/crystal, her tropes are very specific.

– Michiru is filthy rich (which is canon) but also a stuck up bitch
– Michiru is a prodigy but also a stuck up bitch
– Michiru is straight until Haruka, and remains straight after Haruka, since Haruka was pretending to be a man 100% of the time
– Michiru is bisexual, but the only woman she dated is Haruka
– Michiru dates (man) Seiya, or Mamoru
– Michiru is this naive, innocent girl, that Haruka manipulated into filth
– Michiru is christian and conservative, and her parents do not approve of her being a homosexual
– Michiru’s first is Haruka, even in AU where she is like 30 years old
– Michiru’s first woman lover is Haruka
– Michiru is always mad at Haruka for something
– Michiru only falls for Haruka because of destiny
– Michiru has no personality
– Michiru is a bitch
– Michiru is a bitch because she’s rich
– Neptune in Sil Mil is a naive princess who mistakes Uranus for a prince, and falls for “him”
– Michiru’s parents either use her for her talents, or hate her overall (that one I’m guilty of myself)
– Michiru is not Japanese
– Michiru is a hippy who said “fuck it” to everything and decided to live her life freely
– Michiru is a poor artist who tries to make it
– Michiru thought Haruka was a boy at the beginning
– Michiru always questioning her sexuality, and never really accepts that she is a lesbian
– Michiru always bottoms, always one receiving the strap, always the one on the receiving end of penetrative sex, she’s a pillow princess, always shy, always insecure, always having sex with a woman for the first time with Haruka, even when at the rare cases she’s initiating the sex she’s always submissive

overall HaruMichi dynamic
– there is a top/bottom dynamic with Haruka always being the top, though Michiru top has gained some traction lately
– that top/bottom dynamic is not only in bed but also in their everyday lives.
– Haruka flirts all the time in front of Michiru, and Michiru just sits there and accepts it(I blame the 90s anime for that)
– Haruka always does manly things, while Michiru always does feminine and elegant things
– The slow burns always have them either fighting about something, or with Michiru mistaking Haruka for a man at the beginning
– The rich/poor trope, always all the time

Now there are very few new HaruMichi fics, the Ao3 fandom is non existent while the FFnet one maintains a loyal fanbase, thoe small. Sadly the new stuff that is being written follow the same old tropes. I crave for a fic that will have Michiru falling for a fem Haruka, because she’s a raging lesbian who’s thirsty for Haruka’s long legs and sexy body that she got to see in those skimpy mini skirts and crop tops.
